z for oZ

The  wiZard of oZ is the theme of the Douglasville Hydrangea Festival. I have signed up to do one wheel barrow miniature garden.

I have talked to the Munchkin who was the physician in the oringinal wiZard of oZ. I was an advisory board member of the Karpeles Manuscript Museum in 1996 and I found and secured speakers once a month when there were manuscripts important. There were manuscripts from the wiZard of oZ and so I secured him as a speaker from Penny Farms.

I was a child in Milton, Florida when I first saw the movie. I couldn't sit through it. I was 6 or 7 and it frightened me. Especially the Lion. The monkies didn't do much for me either!

Y for the fork in the road

I have a challenge. I have been challenged. I am challenging myself to write a blog to Jimmy Carter, former President, until I figure out what is possible.

My quest in life (think Don Quixote) has been to empower women with the Buddy System. On the Paulding County Sheriff's calendar, my ad is pink. I want to empower women with ponchos. Women can wear a poncho instead of a bra (There is a book, Dressed to Kill, that explains why.). Women can wear a poncho while breast feeding for their own sanity and protection from weird people as well as keeping the core warm. People who have had surgery can wear a poncho for comfort.

So why write Jimmy Carter, former President? Well, I met him. I cannot possibly talk to him with as much information in person as on a simple page.
1. I saw him in person at Plains, Georgia the week before he was inaugarated because of my Mom and Mrs. Parrish. It was 22*F.
2. I met Ms. Lillian at a railway station somewhere. She couldn't shake hands. I didn't say anything brilliant to her.
3. I sang at the Carter Presidential Library and Museum in 2004 when he and Roger Williams turned 80. Roger Williams asked someone to sing K-k-k-Katy, and I did. He asked for my voice again an hour later for Bicycle built for two and no one joined in. I have pictures at and .
4. I held a workshop on boundaries at the Carter Center in the Executive Dining Room in 2009. The staff said they would post it and encourage people to come and they didn't.
5. I met Jimmy Carter at the Carter Center for a book signing. I bought 5 of his books. I told him I was ordained. He was cheerful and asked, "you are?" and I said, "First Baptist Church of Milledgeville, 1987." He wished me well, and he looked at me then. The fork in the road is this: do I make this into something or forget I met the man?

X again

X marks the spot for TREASURE!

Where is your treasure? Is it with the money or the health or the relationships or what?

I found a coin from China. A friend from Australia sent me a $50.00 bill that the Outback restaurant wouldn't accept and I had to travel 40 miles to get it cashed. I received $35.00 for it. I should have mailed it back. The silly friend. Why did she do that? She is kind hearted is all I can guess.

I heard a man speak who coined a word, "famil-ionaire" and I like that. My treasure is not my family. Most of them have died. Getting old enough one needs to make friends. I keep surprising myself by living!

X for X-rated?

Oh for one generation of G-rated life. Can you imagine the world with innocent children who do not know war, starvation, rape, ugly talk, stealing, cheating, gluttony, and know God?

I talked to a minister about weighing food (weight watchers is not called calorie watchers) and my involvement with a church where the message is about sins, conveniently leaving out gluttony. Why would I want to be associated with a church mired in stealing, cheating, promiscuity, lying, murder, and dishonoring God in other ways? Then why would I want to go to a church with gluttony as an acceptable sin?

Whistle? Who taught you how to whistle. Would you read a book about whistling? What would interest you about whistling? Is whistling protected under the 1st Amendment? When can you not whistle? Where is whistling illegal? What kind of whistle would you make if someone scared you and you were calling attention to them? Do you carry a whistle?

I know I am not on the same letter everyone else is on with the A--Z. My parents died and my life is complicated. I built a cushion in so I would be less stressed. My parents died and I have an older sister who is not well. I was also in an accident and I am still dealing with back and wrist problems.

V for visiting

Visiting people. Some people visit businesses and they are the people they have connections with. Some people visit family and that is their connection. What happens when the family dies and all that is left are people you meet?

Joining garden groups, bowling groups, red hat groups, Masons, churches, Lions, Jaycees, and all the other groups out there is one way of "breaking out of isolation." Inviting people over is a feat of nerves. I have never had a group of people at my house who did not judge and compare and believe their stuff was better. Sigh.

T is for Tuba

My biggest inheritance is a tuba. My parents died and I inherited a tuba. No big insurance or land or house or art or anything spectacular. I have a Besson Tuba from the 1880's or something. Who knows?

If I were to donate it, I would donate it to a female college student who plays tuba. That has to be a rarity. So far all of the things I have inherited have sold on Craigslist for $1.00. I inherited new Christmas lights too.

Oh, I miss my silly parents.

S is for silly

Serious is over rated. Silly catches people off guard. Act crazy and people are less likely to take advantage or pester you. It is a safety measure. Talk to yourself. Pretend you are in a Woody Allen movie. Everyone talks to themselves in a Woody Allen movie.

R is for rest?

Our cat was originally named "Blackie." A tuxedo Bombay long haired cat with no claws showed up at our door and slept in our garage for 3 nights. We adopted him and called him blackie. That lasted one day. He wouldn't quit talking. So we "re-named" him Meow. What does that have to do with "rest?" One day, when I sleep the whole night, I will tell you all about it. At this very moment, he is roaming the room meowing. He will stare at me while I am sleeping and then put his paw on my face, or jump on me. He acts like a kitten. We have had him for 2 years. He was grown when we got him.  Today at the Douglasville Animal Shelter 5 kittens were brought in. They were 4 weeks old and they did not have a mother. Someone found them in a box at Sam's Club or Wal-Mart. One of them was black.

Q is for 007

Or was the "Q" for "Get Smart?"

The agents for "Get Smart" used the Buddy System less than a lot of detective shows. The woman was always safe and always so smart. She solved the case better than the shoe phone guy, perhaps?

Today I went to the Douglasville Animal Shelter and six dogs were adopted. Some of the dogs would have been euthanized if people were not adopting today. The place is over crowded. I am not an official volunteer. I come with treats I buy and give to the small and large dogs. There are more pit bulls than any other breed for the big dogs. Some of the puppies are pit bulls. I hope the animals are all neutered and spayed before they are adopted. One pit bull was very sad today. There are two old dogs in the small dog room that haven't been adopted. One is a beagle and the other is a long haired dog. There was a beautiful brown and white bull dog there.

P is for Publish

P is for publish! I wrote Murder on the Silver Comet Trail in 2004. Nanowrimo Award video

The last book I wrote was The Un-Tied States of America: Chaplain to the World! So far I haven't glued my but to the rocking chair and finished the edit. I also don't have an ending I like. How would you end a book where a minister who is over 100 years old is dating an alligator butcher who knows how to waltz and hugs great? She wants to throw in the towel in ministry and live a decadent life because she knows no man could tolerate her schedule and she doesn't have time to take care of someone as intensely as a husband requires. How sad to give up her calling and life of ministry to become a wife and "servant" to one person instead of to many people who will need more than one person would require. Some people could think of her retiring and just living a normal boring life of family life. I mean she is over 100 years old. Did I mention this is sci-fi and she might get pregnant and have babies? I didn't think I mentioned that.
Nanowrimo Award for these books!

O is for O'possum

This may be the shortest video you will ever see. I feed stray cats after one of my neighbors moved and left her cat. The left over food is eaten by opossums now. There were two there this week at one time. This video was not made recently.

Enjoy: Opossum

M for memory

What does memory have to do with the Buddy System?

I remember a video I made about the Silver Comet Trail and the signs for the 60 miles inside Georgia. 8 seconds !

Kathy went with me on the Trail and we saw 2 trains come by the bridge near mile marker 16. I had forgotten this 8 second video!

Another "M" for Mercury! Mercury and cinnabar found in tattoos

J is for Judson College

Today I am going to Judson College in Marion where Coretta Scott King was born. When I attended Judson we were de-segregated. I had 5 Asian little sisters and 2 red headed women and for one semester a blond woman. I gave each one of them a Rosie Goblet except one. She had heart surgery as a small child and she broke her Rosie Goblet when I handed it to her she dropped it. So I gave her two after the first one was broken. They were all beautiful and I loved them as sisters and close friends. There were lesbians at my college. I was not one of the lesbians. I was mothering these women. I tutored them, typed for them.

Time to go to college.

I is for IGLOO?

SO I went to Alaska on a cruise 11 years ago and I didn't see an igloo. I wore the warmest clothes I had for a Southern lady. I interviewed a woman who tried to drive a dog sled. She weighed 100 pounds and she broke her leg when she didn't have the "weight" to keep the sled from flying and she flew with it. She told me she wanted to try it again. Thank God she had people with her. She could have been an appetizer for those malamutes!

The dogs. We women think we are much safer with dogs. Meredith Hope Emerson had Ella, and she still died. Use the Buddy System. People who want something are smarter than you think.

Underestimate people at your own risk.

Oh, and how cold was it when I landed at the airport in Alaska in early June? It was 80*F and 26.7*C. I did some major glowing. "Women glow, men perspire, and horses sweat."

H is for history

History is in a book. History is online. History is the past. People repeat history verbally and physically. Knowing history does NOT mean history will NOT be repeated.

So tell me all you know about Her-story?

G for German

At the First Presbyterian Church in Atlanta the organist is from Germany. His brother came to visit and I sang the Brahm's Lullaby in German for a few bars to his five year old girl. I don't practice, so I couldn't sing for very long. My voice (and your voice) is a gift. I carry a whistle since when I am upset, I may not be able to use my voice. When I am in isolated places, sound is vital for someone to find you. A cell phone can be thrown into the ditch. When I can use my voice, I yell fire. The last line in Murder on the Silver Comet Trail. (Amazon/Kindle)

French is the topic for the Buddy System.

Why do women who majored in French trust strange men?

Don't they know they could be murdered?

Are there jokes about women who talk more than men enjoy?

E is for Enough

E is enough. We have enough people to look after each other if only we would use the Buddy System.

Who benefits from another set of eyes? Men already hear enough about the Buddy System, so what is it that women don't know?

OH, Happy Easter April 20!

D is for Donkey

Alburro Garcia is a friend of mine on Facebook. He sometimes posts pictures/images of a donkey in some stage of development.

"Burro" is a donkey. Balaam had a donkey. Click here. If God can use a donkey to impart a message from God, then God can most certainly use a woman. We women must begin to rely on each other for protection and messages instead of being the resilient and isolated women who think we are independent and other women cannot speak to us or for us. We are independent until we have painted ourselves into a corner! No man is an island, and too many women want to be an island. We want to be able to walk alone and be alone in isolated places. Men have the Buddy System drilled into them from a young age. Who is it who talked to you, a woman, about the Buddy System?

C is for Carrot

Carrot has what to do with the Buddy System?

Mom had a 3 carrot ring she and Dad took to parties. She would talk about how precious it was and then pull it out to the great surprise of people expecting diamonds.

People think they are aware all the time and ready for surprises, and none of us can ever be ready at all times. This is why the Buddy System is effective. Two people pick up on surprises faster and easier because there are two perspectives.

Buddy System

I wanted to write on Bacon and the Buddy System, because I am going through the alphabet for my blog. I am posting every day (except I am going out of town with a friend and leaving my husband so he can have an estate sale while I am gone and the house will be less cluttered when I return!!!!).

When I say use the Buddy System, would you believe most people argue (except I agree) that self defense and weapons are effective deterrents. So when I travel on the Silver Comet Trail, do you think I only take a whistle? Nope, I may have three forms of self defense. Do I ever go on the Silver Comet Trail without a Buddy? Nope. I have tried to be alone on the trail at dusk and women have not allowed me to stay alone. They stuck around. This was before I wrote the book.

Apples? What does that have to do with the Buddy System?

Apples? What does that have to do with the Instant Buddy?

How many witches are single women and girls going to encounter in the woods offering apples? Snow White was given an apple in the middle of the woods. People gave up fruit for Halloween because of sharp objects hidden in fruit. Are unfamiliar women perfect Buddies, instant or known? Nope.

There will be a wicked queen dressed as a witch on occasion. There will be women who are mentally ill. Women are not likely to offer apples in isolated places to kill someone. Women don't abduct, rape, massacre, murder women. Has a woman ever killed another woman, raped, abducted massacred, or murdered another woman? Of course there are women who have. Is it common? What do you think? What has been your experience? Most women who allow these violent acts are afraid and believe they are weak. When violent acts come for someone a woman knows, the next time the violent act comes, it will be for those who are afraid and weak. The bell tolls for thee, so make a difference.

Wear white for this month and check out this blog: Sunny Days . I made white ponchos to wear this month. Make a difference.
